Baby Jesus "Bambinelli" Sunday In Killaloe Diocese

Date:18th Dec 2016

Each year on one of the Sundays of Advent children and families bring the crib figure of the Baby Jesus to St. Peter's Square in Rome to be blessed by the Pope in preparation for Christmas. This is known as Bambinelli Sunday.

This year we intend to celebrate Bambinelli or Baby Jesus Sunday in the Diocese of Killaloe. The crib still has a central place in the homes of our families at Christmas time. We are inviting you to bring the figure of the Baby Jesus from your family crib to masses across the diocese on the 4th Sunday of Advent which takes place on the weekend of the 17th/18th December. The 18th also happens to be the feast of St. Flannan, patron of our Diocese. At masses the celebrant will bless the figure of Baby Jesus on the 4th Sunday of Advent. We invite you to place the figure of the Baby Jesus in a gift box, wrap it and bring it home. Let this be the first gift that you and your family open on Christmas eve, when together you place your Baby Jesus figure in the crib.

This will serve to remind us all of the wonderful event of the World Meeting of Families which is due to take place here in Ireland in August 2018. Some preparatory programmes will be getting underway in the Diocese in the New Year and we hope to be part of this great event when we will welcome Pope Francis to our country.
