Cleo Yates, the Diocesan Director of Safeguarding Services has sent a message to all the parishes expressing gratitude to all those working in our parishes for their support in the work of safeguarding.
I wish to thank everybody for working with the Safeguarding Service on the Garda vetting process. I am aware that this did cause some anxiety and concern, especially with those who have held roles within the Diocese for many years. It is essential that any person who may come into contact with children or vulnerable adults in their roles are vetted, not only to protect children and vulnerable adults, but to protect themselves as well. The Diocese is committed to ensuring the Church is a safe place for children and Garda Vetting is an important part of this process. Once again thank you for your understanding, support and patience with this process.
