Archbishop Nugent Appointed to Haiti

The Holy Father Pope Francis today named Archbishop Eugene Nugent as Apostolic Nuncio to Haiti. Born in Gortaderra, Scariff, Co. Clare Archbishop Nugent was ordained as a priest for the Killaloe Diocese on the 9th July 1983.

He served in the parish of Ennis from 1984 to 1987. He then served for a number of years in the Secreteriat of State before entering the diplomatic service of the Holy See in 1992. He has served in diplomatic postings in Turkey, Jerusalem and Hong Kong before being appointed by Pope Benedict XVI as Apostolic Nuncio to Madagascar in March 2010. He was ordained as an Archbishop in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome on 18th March 2010 by Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, then Secretary of State.
