Canon Paddy O'Brien RIP

Canon_Paddy_OBrien The death has occurred of Canon Paddy O’Brien, retired Parish Priest of Bodyke /Tuamgraney. He died on 17th October 2013 at the Galway Clinic. 

Born on 18th February 1930, Canon Paddy O’Brien was a native of Milltown Malbay, Co Clare and was a priest of the Diocese of Killaloe for 58 years.  He studied for the priesthood at St Patrick's College, Maynooth where he was ordained in 1955. Following ordination he was appointed to St Finbarr’s College, Farranferris to study for the H. Dip in Education at UCC. He returned to the Diocese in 1956 and was appointed to the teaching staff in St Flannan’s College, Ennis. In 1960 he was appointed Choirmaster in Kilrush parish and in April 1969 he was appointed Curate in Kilrush. In July 1978 he was appointed as Curate in Tuamgraney and as Diocesan Director of Church Music.  He was appointed Parish Priest of Bodyke on July 24th 1987 and in November 1993 he was appointed a Canon of the Diocese of Killaloe. He retired as Parish priest in July 2005 but continued to serve as Associate Pastor until his retirement from active ministry in September 2012. 

Funeral Arrangements

Reposing in St Joseph’s Church, Tuamgraney,  Co. Clare on this Saturday, October 19th from 4.00 pm to 6.30 pm followed by Saturday Evening Mass.  Funeral Mass on Sunday, October 20th at 3.00 pm in the Church of the Assumption,  Bodyke Co.Clare followed by burial in Church grounds
