Diocesan Liturgy Initiative

Taize At the most recent meeting of the Diocesan Liturgy Group plans were made for the coming year.

One of the key ideas that emerged was the need for the sharing of liturgy resources, the pooling of ideas, texts, rituals etc. that have been used in different parish contexts, rural/urban, small parish/large parish around the diocese.

Following consultation with Bishop Kieran, it is proposed to make this the focus of our work as a Diocesan Liturgy Group in the coming months.   It is proposed that the Liturgy Resource Sharing Nights be held in two venues in the diocese to make it easier for people to attend.

The dates for the first of these Liturgy Resource Sharing Nights is as a follows:

Thursday 22nd November:            Venue:-                               Cistersian Monastery, Roscrea, at 7.30pm

Brendan, Cronan, Odhran and Cois Derige Clusters;

Thursday 29th  November:           Venue:-                               St Flannan’s College, Ennis at 7.30 p.m.

Inis Cathaigh, Mid Clare (North and South), Imeall Boirne, Abbey, East Clare, Scath na Sionnainne

The first meeting will focus on the Liturgies of Advent, Christmas and the New Year. A letter will be going out early next week addressed to all Parish Liturgy Groups inviting them to come along and bring any resources for the Liturgy of these seasons they are willing to share. We are aware that there is much creativity in the approach to these seasons already  – the Giving Tree in Advent, creative Carol Services, creative rituals with the Jesse Tree or Advent Wreath, Family Mass at Christmas or ways of welcoming those who are not regular Church goers. We particularly invite any parish who has tried something different to share their initiative and we will all be enriched by this sharing. Others may be aware of resources from elsewhere which they might bring to our attention or have new ideas for Liturgies during these seasons.  All of the above will form part of our sharing on the night.

We should be most grateful if the Cluster Rep would follow up on the letter from the Diocese and encourage the local Liturgy Group to send one or two members to attend and bring any Resources they have to share.  (People can of course attend without bringing something to share. The night will be about giving and receiving all round and no doubt some ideas will arise spontaneously as we listen).
