Fr. John Slattery RIP

078_Rev_John_Slattery_art The death has taken place of Fr. John Slattery (Retired PP of Puckane). Fr John was a native of Cloughjordan, Co Tipperary and was a priest of the Diocese of Killaloe for 52 years. 

He was a past pupil of St Flannan’s College, Ennis. He studied for the priesthood at St Patrick's College, Carlow where he was ordained on June 6th 1964.

          His first appointment was in the Diocese of Limerick until 1968 when he was appointed to the Emigrant Apostolate in London. He returned to Ireland in 1973 to take a year long course in Catechetics in Dundalk. He was appointed as Curate in Birr in 1974 and in July 1980 he was appointed fulltime Chaplain in Birr Community School. In July 1988 he was appointed Curate in Lorrha. He was appointed Parish Priest Killanena, Co. Clare in 1994 and moved to Kilcolman, Co Offaly as Parish Priest in 1998.  He was appointed Parish Priest in Puckane, Co. Tipperary in 2002.  He remained there until his retirement in July 2014.

He died on April 7th 2016

Reposing in the Church of St Mary of the Rosary, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary on this Saturday evening, April 9th from 2.00 pm to 4.30 pm with Evening Prayer at 4.30 pm.  Funeral Mass on Sunday, April 10th in the church of St Mary of the Rosary, Nenagh at 3.00 pm followed by burial in Kilruane Church grounds.
