Bishop Kieran O'Reilly has issued a letter for the World Day of Prayer for Migrants and Refugees which is celebrated on Sunday 13th January 2013.
In it he invites us to "re-examine our attitudes and manner of welcome to those who are part of our communities in Ireland." We are not only meant to show our material support for migrants but also the presence of the Lord by our attitude and welcome.
For parishes celebrating their diversity and wanting to think creatively about diversity and inclusion, the theme and message of World Migrant Sunday have much to offer. World Migrant and Refugee Sunday is an ideal time for parishes to celebrate immigrants, refugees and people seeking asylum in our communities. The Council for Immigrants has prepared a resource for parishes to celebrate World Migrant and Refugee Sunday on January 13th 2013. The resource contains a copy of His Holiness Benedict VI message for World Migrant and Refugee Sunday, Irish immigration statistics, liturgy and homily suggestions for parishes to use.
