Fr. Charlie Navin (Retired Parish Priest of Tubber) died peacefully at the Bons Secours Hospital in Galway on Saturday 25th August 2012 following a short illness. Ordained in 1943 he was the longest serving priest in the Diocese of Killaloe. He was in his 94th year of age.
Fr. Charlie was born in the parish of Clarecastle, Co. Clare in March 1919. He studied for the priesthood in St. Patrick's College Maynooth and was ordained in 1943.
He began his priestly ministry in the parish of Killanena/Flagmount and later that same year was appointed to Whitegate, Co. Clare. After a period of illness he was appointed to Scariff in 1950 and was appointed curate in Ballywilliam, Co Tipperary in 1959. In 1965 he was appointed curate in Sixmilebridge, Co. Clare and in 1969 he became curate in Borrisokane, Co Tipperary. In January 1973 he was appointed parish priest of the County Clare parish of Tubber and Boston. In July 1995 he retired as Parish Priest. He continued to live in Tubber until his death.
Funeral Arrangements
Fr. Charlies remains will repose at the church of St Michael, Tubber Co. Clare from 3.00 p.m. until 8.00 p.m. on Monday, August 27th with Funeral Prayers at 8.00 pm.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 28th at 2.30 pm. Fr. Charlie will be laid to rest in the grounds of the Church of St Michael, Tubber immediately after the Requiem Mass.
