Following the installation of Archbishop Kieran O’Reilly as Metropolitan Archbishop of Cashel and Emly on Sunday last the Diocese of Killaloe became vacant. At a meeting of the College of Consultors of the Diocese Fr. Des Hillery, (P.P. Nenagh), was elected as Administrator of the Killaloe Diocese.

On Sunday last Archbishop Kieran was installed as Archbishop of Cashel and Emly in the Cathedral of the Assumption in Thurles.

The Mass of Installation for the new Archbishop of Cashel and Emly, Archbishop Kieran O’Reilly will take place this Sunday 8 February 2015 at 3:00pm in the Cathedral of The Assumption, Thurles, Co Tipperary. Archbishop Kieran O’Reilly has spoken to Beyond Belief about his recent trip to the Holy Land. He speaks about the experience and states that, “The terrible conditions in which tens of thousands of families in Gaza are living are an assault on human dignity.” Archbishop Kieran O’Reilly and Bishop Ray Browne of Kerry were both part of a delegation of European bishops which travelled to the Holy Land from 10-15 January.

The Parish of Shannon is Killaloe Diocese’s youngest parish. The parish was part of Newmarket-on-Fergus until it was created by the late Bishop Michael Harty on Christmas Eve 1967. Last Sunday saw the start of a special year of prayer for consectrated life. Archbishop Kieran is part of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life which met last week in Rome and had a special audience with the Holy Father.
