"As we set out on the journey of implementation of this plan can I repeat with the Holy Father that Christ is our companion on this journey and that we need to constantly contemplate the face of Christ, inviting Him to guide us on our way. May the gentleness of Christ be with each one of us as we journey together."

Re Training for Parish Pastoral Councils
We recognise that Parish Pastoral Councils are at different stages of development. Some are on the road for many years and have built up a good deal of expertise and experience in that time. In other parishes the pastoral council is still finding its feet, perhaps still wondering about its role or maybe a bit unfocused about what it should do. Still others are very much at a beginning stage and very new to a pastoral approach or to pastoral planning.
In planning a training programme at diocesan level, our focus for now is primarily on Parish Pastoral Councils who are relatively new or still finding their feet. Our aim here is to resource these groups to take on the role of pastoral leadership within their parishes.
For those Pastoral Councils who have travelled further on the road, we suggest that this training would help them to review and evaluate where they are and develop further skills for the journey ahead.
It is hoped that this training will be done on a cluster basis. The enrichment of Pastoral Councils at different stage of development within a Cluster doing this training together should not be underestimated. Those who are relatively new would be encouraged by those who are further on and those who have travelled farther would be affirmed in the journey they have travelled already as well as enhancing their skills in areas such as listening to local needs and pastoral planning. |
