Present a very special evening to honour the canonisation of
John Henry Newman
Saint John Henry Cardinal Newman
John Henry Newman’s canonisation provides us with an opportunity to mark this occasion in Limerick and in particular Ballybrown, as Newman has very real links with the locality.
Newman was a close friend of William Monsell, (Lord Emly), the Anglo-Irish landowner who resided at Tervoe, Clarina. Newman visited Limerick twice in his life and on the first occasion he stayed in Tervoe House from 3rd to 9th August 1852. It was there that he completed The Idea of a University, and the altar on which he celebrated Mass is now located in the parish church of Ballybrown.
We have invited Bishop Fintan Monahan and our own local historian, Matthew Potter to present a very special evening:
