Welcome!

Welcome to His Excellency, Archbishop Jude Thadeus Okolo, Papal Nuncio to Ireland on his first visit to Killaloe diocese.  He is very excited to be in Ennis and to experience a traditional Clare welcome.  It is great to see so many people here for the second night of the St. Padre Pio Triduum in the Franciscan Friary here in Ennis.

 

Biography

Archbishop Jude is a native of Nigeria.  He was ordained a priest in 1983 and served in Sri Lanka, the Antillean Islands, Switzerland, Czech Republic and Australia, Chad, Dominican Republic and Peurto Rico.

 

Nuncio to Ireland

He was appointed Papal Nuncio, Pope Francis’ representative in Ireland in 2017 in succession to Archbishop Charles Brown from New York.

 

Talented Linguist

Apart from his own national language of Igbo Archbishop Jude is fluent in English, French, Italian, Spanish and German.

I hope you enjoy your visit here this evening to the Friary for the middle night of the annual Padre Pio Triduum.  Welcome to Ennis, to the diocese of Killaloe, to Westbourne tonight and wishing you a safe journey as you venture to Loughrea for Mass with the Carmelite sisters tomorrow morning and onwards to Athlone, before returning to the Nunciature on the Navan road tomorrow night.
