Primary School Catechethics
The main role of the Religious Education advisors is to support the teachers in our schools who play a key role in the religious formation of our young people. This support is practically given through visitation of the schools on a regular basis and by providing opportunities for ongoing formation and in-service of teachers.
At Primary level the work of the Catechetical Team is threefold; (i) annual visitation of each school and an engagement with the teachers and students , (ii) in-service courses and ongoing formation for teachers , (iii) working with parents particularly as part of pre-sacramental programmes.
As we face into a new millennium the challenge for Catechesis is very significant and sometimes troubling. The triangular relationship between parents, teachers and priests is at the core of good religious education. Let us pray for the courage to embrace the challenges ahead.
Our Diocesan Advisors are Joe Searson, Gerald Cronin and Sr Essie Hayes
